“Set Aside Some Time” Podcast Expands Medicare Secondary Payer Knowledge

MSPN launches podcast series

Baton Rouge, La. – July 6, 2021 - The National Medicare Secondary Payer Network (MSPN), the leading source for education on MSP compliance, has launched the “Set Aside Some Time” podcast series. The podcasts provide the most up-to-date and accurate information to anyone directly or tangentially involved in MSP matters. Interviews feature leading experts on MSP compliance and in professions touched by MSP matters.

“The Set Aside Some Time” podcast expands our educational offerings, which already include monthly webinars, an annual conference, and Medicare Set-Aside Consultant Certified (MSCC) training program,” said Dan Anders, president of MSPN. “MSPN offers a one-stop-shop for all things MSP compliance.”

The first podcast, “There can Be MIRacles: Understanding Section 111 Reporting,” is currently available and features Ciara Koba, Principal at Allan Koba Compliance Solutions and immediate past president of MSPN.  She will be interviewed by Amanda Worman, Senior WC Claims Examiner for Montana Municipal Interlocal Authority, on why Section 111 exists, when it applies, and what we can expect to see in the future.

Subsequent podcasts include:

“Conditional Payment Containment.” Conditional Payment resolution can be a long, confusing and sometimes frustrating process.  Sandi Walthall, DVP of Claims for Strategic Comp, will interview, Patrick Czuprynski, Director of Lien Resolution for NuQuest, and Michael Bergonzi, Shareholder Dickey, McCamey & Chilcote, who will discuss the basics of the process and provide insight into some of the most common pitfalls to avoid.

“Liability MSAs – Waiting for the Other Shoe to Drop.”  While the process for worker’s compensation MSAs is fully “dressed” there is not much of an “outfit” for the liability side.  Steve Shaw of Shaw Legal Solutions and Robert Sagrillo, President of NuQuest, will be interviewed by Rasa Fumagalli, Director of MSP Compliance for Synergy Settlement Services, on MSP and liability settlements.  They will discuss the various ways that plaintiffs and defendants view their compliance obligations and forecast when that other shoe - proposed liability regulations from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services – may drop.

“Annuities: Opportunities and Ambiguities.”  Structured settlement annuities offer that rare win-win situation for both sides in a settlement, according to Jason Lazarus, CEO of Synergy Settlement Services, and Jeff Livingston, Structured Settlement consultant for Arcadia Settlements Group. In an interview with Jennifer Shymanski, Vice President, Implementation and Strategy for NuQuest, they will discuss opportunities that using structured settlements brings to both plaintiffs and defendants and what components the parties should focus on when choosing to use these annuities.

Future podcasts will feature the wide-range and important work of MSPN as well as others in the MSP community, in addition to bonus episodes exclusively for MSPN members.

You may access the podcast on your favorite podcast app or listen directly at https://mspnetwork.transistor.fm/.
